Postponement of Elections Assam Local Board Elections (Emergency Provisions) Act, 1954 04 of 1954 [24 March 1954] PREAMBLE An Act to provide for the postponement of Local Board Elections. Whereas it is expedient to postpone the Assam Local Board Elections due to be held before the 1st April, 1954, It is hereby enacted as follows: 1. Short title, extent and commencement :- (1) This Act may be called the Assam Local Board Elections (Emergency Provisions) Act, 1954. (2) It shall have the like extent as the Assam Local Self- Government Act, 1953 (Assam Act XXV of 1953). (3) It shall come into force at once. 2. Postponement of Elections :- Notwithstanding anything contained in Section 18 of the Assam Local Self-Government Act. 1953 (Assam Act XXV of 1953) or in the Assam Local Board Elections (Emergency Provisions) Act, 1953 (Assam Act IV of 1953), the Local Board Elections due to be held before the 1st April, 1954 may be postponed by order of the State Government for such period as they may deem necessary: Provided that such period shall not extend to a date later than the 31st March, 1955.
