Amendment of section 66 Assam Local Self-Government (Second Amendment) Act, 1954 36 of 1954 [08 December 1954] PREAMBLE An Act to further amend the Assam Local Self-Government Act, 1953 Whereas it is expedient to further amend the Assam Local Self- Government Act, 1953 (Assam Act XXV of 1953) hereinafter referred to as the Principal Act, in the manner hereinafter appearing; It is hereby enacted in the Fifth Year of the Republic of India as follows:- 1. Short title, extent and commencement :- (1) This Act may be called the Assam Local Self-Government (Second Amendment) Act, 1954. (2) It shall have the like extent as the Principal Act. (3) It shall come into force at once. 2. Amendment of section 66 :- For sub-sections (1) and (2) of sec tion 66 of the Principal Act, the following shall be substituted, namely: -- "(1) The Middle Vernacular Schools maintained and aided by the Local Boards, when recognised as Basic Schools under the Assam Basic Education Act, 1954 (Assam Act XXVI of 1954), shall be under the charge of the authorities set up under that Act. The Boards shall be guided by provisions contained in that Act and rules and orders thereunder in the discharge of their liability in respect of Basic Education. (2) Subject to as aforesaid, the Board may, with its consent, be charged by the State Government with, and made responsible for, the establishment, maintenance and management of any other schools or class of schools, other than Basic Schools, within the jurisdiction of the Local Board. Subject to the approval of the State Government the Board may make grants-in-aid to any such schools, whether they are under public or private management."
