Method of packing SCHEDULE 1 :- SCHEDULE I SCHEDULE 2 :- SCHEDULE II BURA (GRADING AND MARKING) RULES, 1943 In exercise of the powers conferred by Sec. 3 of the Agricultural Produce (Grading and Marking) Act, 1937 (1 of 1937), the Central Government is pleased to make the following rules, the same having been previously published as required by the said section, namely: 1. Short title and application :- (1) These rules may be called the Bura (Grading and Marking) Rules, 1943. (2) They shall apply to Bura prepared in India. 2. Grade designations :- The grade designations to indicate the quality of Bura are set out in column 1 of Schedule I. 3. Definition of quality :- T h e definitions of quality indicated by the various grade designations are specified in columns 2, 3 and 4 respectively of Schedule I. 4. Grade designation marks :- The grade designation mark shall consist of a label specifying the grade designation and bearing a design (consisting of an outline map of India in conjunction with the word AGMARK) resembling that set out in Schedule II, in the following colours: 5. Method of marking :- The grade designation mark label shall be securely attached to each container. In addition to the grade designation, the following particulars shall be clearly marked on the label: (a) Whether prepared from khand or factory sugar. (b) Net weight. (c) Lot Number (d) Date of packing. (e) Name of authorised packer. 6. Method of packing :- (a) The bura shall be packed in clean and dry containers in sound condition. These may be made of paper, cotton or jute. Containers which have been previously used for commodities likely to cause damage or impart any obnoxious flavour, odour or other undesirable characteristics to the bura shall not be employed. The interior of jute containers used for packing bura of the Special Refined, Special and A-I grades shall be lined with clean cotton cloth or plain packing paper. (b) Bura prepared from Khand shall be packed separately from Bura made from factory sugar and each container shall contain Bura of the one uniform quality and grade only. Cream \ \ (c) shall be dried to such an ex- \ \ \ \ tent as can reasonably main- \ \ \ \ tain its weight and colour; (d) shall be free from any objectionable flavour; and (e) shall not have an ash content of more than 1/2 per cent by weight. "The colour standards corresponding to the various prescribed shades are issued by the Agricultural Marketing Adviser to the Government of India. White power sugar prepared by treating rab (massecuite prepared in open pans) with sewar (hydrilla verticillata) or by centrifuging. The process of clarification may be effected by means of any of the agents normally used for the purpose ineluding milk, sujji (a mixture of crude sodium carbonate and sodium sulphate) lemon juice, Tatari (a tartarate) aluu or bhindi (hibiscus Esculentus) water Bleaching agents shall not be used.
