Short title and application :- (1) These rules may be called the Citrus Fruits (Grading and Marking) Rules, 1949. (2) They shall apply to Citrus fruits produced in India. 2. Grade designations :- Grade designations to indicate the quality of certain varieties of Citrus fruits produced in India are set out in column 1 of Schedules II to VII. 3. Definition of quality :- The quality indicated by such grade of designations is set out against such designations in columns 2 and 3 of Schedules II to VII. 4. Grade designation marks :- The grade designation mark shall consist of a label bearing the design set out in Schedule I, specifying the grade designation and will be of the following colour : 5. Method of marking :- The grade designation mark label shall be securely affixed to each package of citrus fruits and shall clearly show the following particulars:- (a) Variety, (b) Number. (c) Net weight. (d) Name and address of packing station. (e) Date of packing. 6. Method of packing :- (1) Containers maybe either returnable or non-returnable. They shall be clean and suitable for the purpose. All packages shall be securely closed. (2) Packing material, if used, shall be clean and dry. (3) The citrus fruits in any container shall be of one variety, of one grade, reasonably uniform and the top layer shall be representative of the entire contents of the package in respect of size, colour, maturity, shape and freedom from defects.
