Driver (Class-III) (Panchayat Service) Recruitment Rules, 2002 In exercise of the powers conferred by Sec. 227 read with Sec. 274 of the Gujarat Panchayats Act, 1993 (Guj. 18 of 1993) and in supersession of all the rules made in this behalf, the Government of Gujarat hereby makes the following rules to provide for regulating recruitment to the post of Driver (Class-III), (Panchayat Service), namely: 1. . :- These rules may be called the Driver (Class-III) (Panchayat Service) Recruitment Rules, 2002. 2. . :- Appointment to the post of Driver, (Class-III), (Panchayat Service) shall be made either : (a) by promotion of a person of proved merit and efficiency from amongst the persons who have worked on the post in class-IV cadre in the Inferior Panchayat Service for not less than five years and have passed fourth standard examination and who possess qualifications as prescribed in sub-rule (c) to sub-rule (g) of Rule 4, or (b) by direct selection. 3. . :- The appointment by direct selection and promotion shall be made in the ratio of 9: 1. 4. . :- To be eligible for appointment by direct selection to the post mentioned in Rule 2, a candidate shall (a) not be less than 18 years and not more than 30 years of age; (b) have passed seventh standard examination; (c) have the experience of driving vehicles for a period of not less than five years; (d) have experience gained after obtaining a valid motor driving licence: (i) for light motor vehicles for not less than five years; (ii) for medium motor vehicles and heavy motor vehicles for not less than three years; (e) have a good physique with a height of not less 162 cms. and a minimum chest measurement 79 cms. deflated; (f) not be colour blind and must have a good vision with or without glasses; (g) have adequate knowledge of Gujarati and Hindi. 5. . :- A candidate appointed by direct selection shall be on probation for a period of one year. 6. . :- A selected candidate shall be required to pass the departmental examination and an examination in Gujarati or Hindi or both in accordance with the rules prescribed by the Government. 7. . :- A candidate appointed by direct selection shall be required to furnish a security and surety bond for such amount in such form and for such period as may be prescribed by the Government.
