FOREIGNERS (EXEMPTION) ORDER, 1957 G.S.R. 1/28/55 F, III, dated the 9th January. 1957.-In exercise of the powers conferred by Section 3A of the Foreigners Act, 1946 (31 of 1946), the Central Government hereby makes the following Order, namely:- 1. . :- (1) This order may be called the Foreigners (Exemption) Order, 1957. (2) It shall come Into force at once. 2. . :- Except as otherwise provided in the paragraph 3, the provisions of the Foreigner Act, 1946 (31 of 1946), and of the Foreigners Order, 1948, shall not apply to or in relation to any citizen (not being a person who Is in India for or In connection with missionary work, or who, or either of whose presents or any of whose grand-parents, was at any time a Chinese national, of each of the following countries, namely : Explanation-In this paragraph. "United Kingdom" means the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland : and Includes Channel Islands, the Isle of Man and all Colonies : and "Australia" Includes the territories of Papua and the territory of Norfolk Island.-Omitted) 3. . :- If the Central Government Is satisfied that with respect to any citizen of any of the countries mentioned in Paragraph 2, It Is necessary so to do,- (a) in the interests of the defence of India or the security of India; or (b) In the Interests of friendly relations with any country outside India; or (c) In the Interests of the general public of India or of any section thereof: It may, notwithstanding anything contained in paragraph 2, make with respect to such citizen any such order under Section 3 of the Act aforesaid Act as it thinks fit. SPECIAL NOTE In Exercise of the powers conferred by Section 3A of the Foreigners Act, 1946, the Central Government, vide Notification No. 449(E), dated 16.6.1984, published in the Gazette of India, dated 16.6.1984, rescinded, with effect from the 18th June, 1984, the Foreigners (Exemption) Order, 1957.
