Extension of Assam Act I of 1929 Goalpara Tenancy (Extension To Autonomous District Of Garo Hills) Act, 1953 24 of 1953 [22 July 1953] PREAMBLE An Act to extend the Goalpara Tenancy Act, 1929 to the Autonomous district of Garo Hills. Whereas it is expedient to extend the Goalpara Tenancy Act, 1929 (Assam Act I of 1929) to the permanently-settled areas of the Autonomous district of Garo Hills; It is hereby enacted as follows:-- 1. Short title, extent and commencement :- (1) This Act may be called the Goalpara Tenancy (Extension to Autonomous District of Garo Hills) Act, 1953. (2) It shall extend to the permanently-settled areas of the Autonomous district of Garo Hills hereinafter referred to as "the said areas" subject to notification under clause (a) of sub- paragraph (1) of paragraph 12 of the Sixth Schedule to the Constitution by the District Council of the said Autonomous District. (3) It shall come into force at once. 2. Extension of Assam Act I of 1929 :- All the provisions of the Goalpara Tenancy Act, 1929 shall apply to "the said areas" and shall be deemed to have come into force on the date of the commencement of this Act.
