HEAD CONSTABLE, DRIVER, MECHANIC, RECRUITMENT RULES, 1983 In exercise of the powers conferred by clause (b) of section 5 of Bombay Police Act, 1951 (Bom. XXII of 1951) and in supersession of all the existing rules in this behalf, the Government of Gujarat hereby makes the following rules to provide for regulating recruitment of the post of Head Constable Driver Mechanic in the Subordinate Services Class III in the Police Department namely: 1. . :- These rules may be called the Head Constable Driver Mechanic, Recuritment Rules, 1983. 2. . :- Appointment to the post of the Head Constable, Driver, Mechanis in the Subordinate Services, Class III, in the Police Department shall be made either; (a) by promotion of a person of proved merit and efficiency from amongst the persons working in the Subordinate Services of the Police Department. or (b) by direct selection. 3. . :- To be eligible for appointment by direct selection to the post mentioned in rule 2, a candidate must. 4. . :- The appointment by direct selection and promotion shall be made in the ratio of 1:1. (a) be not less than 21 years and not more than 35 years of age: Provided that the upper age limit may be relaxed upto five year s in case of candidates belonging to the Scheduled Caste and Scheduled Tribe; (b) Possess the following minimum qualifications (i) Educational Must have passed the VII Standard Examination in regional language. (ii) Technical. must have practical experience in a recognised workshop for about 5 years; or have Industrial Training Institute Certificate in the trade and have practical experience in a recognised workshop for about 3 years. (iii) have valid driving licence for heavy vehicles for not less than two years: Provided that the preference shall be given to a candidate having additional experience in repairs of diesel vehicles. (iv) Physique. Height : Not less than 168 c.m chest measurement the mean between deflated and inflated chest measurement should not be less than 84 cms. and difference between two should not be less than 5 cms. 5. To be eligible for promotion :- A departmental candidate must have passed the VII Standard regional language and must pass the qualifying tests laid down in this behalf. However, the requirement in respect of general education may be relaxed by the Competent Authority if the candidate has sufficient experience and ability to carry out the duties of the higher post. For the purpose of promotion results of qualifying tests shall be considered along with the candidate performance in the department. 6. . :- A candidate appointed by direct selection shall be on probation for a period of one year. 7. . :- The selected candidate shall be required to pass departmental examination in Gujarati or Hindi or both in accordance with the rules prescribed by the Government from time to time. 8. . :- The candidate appointed by direct selection shall be required to serve Government for a period of five years and he shall have to execute Security and Surety bonds for Rs. 500/- each in the form prescribed by the Government from time to time.
