INDIAN COUNCILS ACT, 1869 98 of 1869 [11th August, 1869] An Act to define the powers of the Governor General of India in Council at meetings for making laws and regulations for certain purposes. Whereas doubts have arisen as to the extent of power of the Governor General of India in Council to make laws binding upon native Indian subjects beyond the Indian territories under the dominion of Her Majesty: * * * The rest of the preamble and enacting words were repealed (U. K.) by 56 and 57 Vict:, c. 54 (S.L. R.). 1. Powr to makes laws for native Indian subjects beyoned the Indian territories :- 1*** the Governor General of India in Council shall have power at meetings for the purpose of making laws and regulations to make laws and regulations for all persons being native Indian subjects of Her Majesty, * * *2 without and beyond as well as within the Indian territories under the dominion of Her Majesty. 1. The words From and after the passing of this Act" were repealed (U. K.) by 56 and 57 Vict " c. -54 (S.L.R:), 2. The words "her heirs and successors were repealed (U. K.) by 56 and 57 Vict., c.54 (S. L. R.). 2. 2 :- Rep. 46 and 47 Vict., c. 39 (S. L. R.). 3. Power to repeal or amend certain sections of 3 and 4 Will. 4, c. 85. :- Notwithstanding anything in the Indian Councils Act or in any other Act of Parliament contained, any law or regulation which shall hereafter be made by the Governor General in Council in manner in the said Indian Councils Act provided shall not be invalid by reason only that it may repeal or affect any of the provisions of the Government of India Act, 1833 , contained in sections 1* * * eighty-four2 * * * and eighty-six of the said Act. 1. The words "eighty-one, eighty-two, eighty-three" were repeated (U. K.) by 56 and 57 Vict, c.54 (S. L. R.). 2. The word "eighty-five" was repealed (U. K.) -by 56 and 57 Vict., c. 54 (S. L. R.).
