Title and commencement :- (1) These rules may be called the Karnataka Panchayat Raj (Backward Classes) Rules, 1993. (2) They shall come into force at once. 2. Backward Classes :- For the purpose of reservation of seats and offices in the Zilla Panchayats, Taluka Panchayats and Grama Panchayats constituted under the Karnataka Panchayat Raj Act, 1993 (Karnataka Act 14 of 1993) "Backward Classes" means, Backward Classes, as notified by the Government in Order No. SWL 66 BCA 96, dated thirteenth day of October, 1986 or in such other order as may be issued from time to time.
