POLICE SUB-INSPECTOR (Motor Transport) RECRUITMENT RULES, 1986 In exercise of the powers conferred by the clause (b) of section 5 of the Bombay Police Act, 1951 (Bom XXII of 1951) and in supersession of all the existing rules to provide for regulating recruitment to the post of police Sub-Inspector in Motor Transport in the Gujarat State Subordinate Service, Class III in the Police Department, namely: 1. . :- These Rules may be called the Police Sub-Inspector (Motor Transport) Recruitment Rules, 1986. 2. . :- Appointment to the post of Police Sub-Inspector in Motor Transport in the Gujarat State Subordinate Service, Class III, in the Police Department shall be made either (a) by direct selection on the result of the competitive examination held by the Department Committee, or (b) by promotion of a person of proved merit and efficiency from amongst the persons working in the first grade cadre of Head Constables, Driver Mechanics, Fitters, Turners, Welders, Electricians and Store-keepers who have passed the departmental qualifying examination of the Police Department in the Motor Transport. 3. . :- The appointment by direct selection and by promotion shall be made in the ratio of 1 : 2 respectively. 4. . :- To be eligible for appointment by direct selection to the post mentioned in rule 2, a candidate shall- (a) not be less than 21 years and more than 23 years of age: Provided that the upper age limit may be relaxed by 5 years in case of Scheduled Caste/Scheduled Tribe and Socially and Educationally Backward Class candidates Provided further that the upper age limit may also be relaxed in favour of a cannidate possessing exceptionally good qualification or experience or both : Provided also that the upper age limit may also be relaxed in favour of a candidate who is already in the Government service in accordance with the provisions of the Gujarat Civil Services Classification and Recruitment (General) Rules, 1967, as amended from time to time; (b) have passed the Secondary Certificate examination or its equivalent examination; (c) (i) possess a diploma in Automobile Engineering of any institute recognised by the Government or certificate awarded by Electrical and Mechanical Engineering School Vadodara and have about one year's practical experience in a well established Automobile Engineering Workshop or the Military Workshop, after obtaining such Diploma or certificate, or (ii) have passed a certificate course in Automobile Engineering from any institute recognised by the Government and possess about three years' practical experience in repairs and maintenance of motor vehicles in a well-established Automobile Engineering Workshop, or the Military Workshop, after obtaining the certificate, or (iii) have passed the National Apprenticeship Certificate Course Mechanic (Motor Vehicles) awarded by the National Council for training in Vocational Trades, Government of India and possess about three years' practical experience in manufacture, repairs and Maintenance of motor vehicles in well established Automobile Engineering Establishment or Organisation, after obtaining the certificate: Provided that the candidate shall have Joined the course of National Apprenticeship Certificate in Machine (Motor Vehicle) awarded by the the National Council for Trainining in Vocational Trades, Government of India, after passing the Secondary School Certificate Examination or any equivalent examination; (d) have held a Motor Driving Licence, for about one and half years; (e) be not less than 165 centimeters in height and have chest measurement of not less than 84 centimeters fully inflated with an expansion of 5 centimeters; (f) have adequate knowledge of Gujarati; 5. . :- The candidate appointed by direct selection or by promotion shall be on probation for a period of two years. 6. . :- The selected candidate shall be required to pass a Departmental Examination if any, and examination in Gujarati or Hindi or both in accordance with the rules prescribed by the Government in that behalf from time. to time. 7. . :- The candidate appointed by direct selection shall be imparted training at Government cost and shall be required to serve as Police Sub- Inspector for about a period of five years from the date of his appointment and shall have to execute security and surety bonds in the form as prescribed in the Annexure to these rules. 8. . :- For the purpose of clause (a) of rules, the Department Recruitment Committee shall consist of (1) the Deputy Inspector General Police. (2) Superintendent of Police Motor Transport Corporation. (3) Works Manager, Gujarat State Road Transport Corporation.
