XXII of 1951) and in Supersession of the Police Sub-Inspectors (Unarmed) Recruitment Rules, 1980 and the Police Sub-Inspector (Unarmed Female Branch) Class-III Recruitment Rules, 1994, the Government of Gujarat hereby makes the following rules to provide for regulating recruitment to the post of Police Sub-Inspector (Unarmed Branch), Class-III, in the Gujarat Police Service, namely: 1. rule :- These rules may be called the Police Sub-Inspector (Unarmed Branch) Recruitment Rules, 1997. 2. rule :- Appointment to the post of Police Sub-Inspector (Unarmed Branch), Class-III, in the Gujarat State Police Service shall be made either (i) by promotion of a person of proved merit and efficiency from amongst the persons who have worked for not less than five years in the cadre of Head Constable (Unarmed Branch, Grade-I) in the Gujarat State Police Service: Provided that where an appointing authority is satisfied that a person having an experience as specified above is not available for promotion and that it is in public interest to fill up the post by promotion of a person having experience for a lesser period it may, for reasons to be recorded in writing, promote such person who has experience for a period not less than two-third of the period specified above, or (ii) by direct selection on the basis of the result of the competitive examination held by the Police Sub-Inspectors Recruitment Board. 3. rule :- Appointment by direct selection and by promotion shall be made in the ratio of 1:1. 4. rule :- To be eligible for appointment by direct selection to the post mentioned in Rule 2, a candidates shall (a) not be less than 21 years and not be more than 28 years of age : Provided that the upper age limit shall be relaxed upto 31 years in the case of Constable or Head Constable working in the Gujarat State Police Service and possess a degree of any recognised University. (b) posses a degree of any of the University incorporated by an Act of the Central or State Legislature in India or other educational institute established by an Act of Parliament or declared to the deemed as University under Sec. 3 of the University Grants Commission Act, 1956 or possess an equivalent qualification recognised as such by the Government for this purpose. (c) (i) not be less than 165 centimeters in height in case of male candidate (160 centimeters in case of candidate belonging to Scheduled Tribes of the Gujarat Origin) and have a chest measurement of not less than 84 centimeters when full inflated with a minimum expension of 5 centimeters, (ii) not be less than 158 centimeters in height in case of female candidate (156 centimeters in case of candidates belonging to Scheduled Tribes of the Gujarat Origin) and have not less than forty five kilogrammes in weight. (d) possess adequate knowledge of Gujarati and Hindi 5. rule :- The candidate appointed by direct selection shall be required to undergo such training and to pass post training examination and the departmental examination in accordance with the rules prescribed in that behalf by Government from time to time. 6. rule :- The candidate appointed by direct selection shall be on probation for a period of one year after successful completion of his training. 7. rule :- The candidate appointed by direct selection or by promotion shall be required to pass the Departmental examination and examination in Gujarati or Hindi or both in accordance with the rules prescribed in that behalf by the Government from time to time. 8. rule :- The candidate appointed by direct selection shall be required to furnish a security and surety bond in such form, for such amount and for such period as may be prescribed in that behalf by the Government from time to time.
