Modifications Press (Objectionable Matter) (Extension To Assam Autonomous Districts) Act, 1953 17 of 1953 [10 June 1953] PREAMBLE An Act to extend the Press (Objectionable Matter) Act, 1951 to the Autonomous Districts of Garo Hills, Lushai Hills and North Cachar Hills in the State of Assam. Whereas it is expedient to extend the press (objectionable matter) act, 1951 (Act No. LVI of 1951) referred to hereunder as "the said act" to the autonomous districts of garo hills, lushai hills and north cachar hills in the state of assam;It is hereby enacted as follows:-- 1. Short title, and extent :- (1) This Act may be called the Press (Objectionable Matter) (Extension to Assam Autonomous Districts) Act, 1953. (2) It shall extend to the Autonomous Districts of the Garo Hills, the Lushai Hills and the North Cachar Hills referred to in Part A of the table appended to paragraph 20 of the Sixth Schedule to the Constitution, hereinafter referred to as "the said areas". 2. Extension of Central Act No. LVI of 1951 and commencement :- A ll the provisions of the Press (Objectionable Matter) Act, 1951 shall apply to the said areas and shall be deemed to have come into force on the date of the commencement of this Act, subject to the modifications specified in section 3. 3. Modifications :- (1) Reference to "the Session Judge" in the said Act shall be construed as referring to "the Deputy Commissioner of the District". (2) Reference to the sections of the Code of Criminal Procedure, 1898 (Act V of 1898) in the said Act shall be construed as referring to the relevant rules for the Administration of Justice for the areas concerned.
