Method of packing SCHEDULE 1 :- SCHEDULE I SCHEDULE 2 :- SCHEDULE II SUGARCANE GUR (JAGGERY) (GRADING AND MARKING) RULES, 1943 In exercise of the powers conferred by section 3 of the Agricultural Produce (Grading and Marking) Act, 1937 (I of 1937), the Central Government is pleased to make the following rules, the same having been previously published as required by the said section, namely :- 1. Short title and application :- (1) These rules may be called the Sugarcane Gur (Jaggery) (Grading and Marking) Rules, 1943. (2) They shall apply to Sugarcanc Gur (Jaggery) prepared in India in the form of solid lumps, hereafter referred to as gur. 2. Grade designations :- Grade designations to indicate the quality of gur are set out in column I of Schedule 1. 3. Definition of quality :- The special and general characteristics of quality indicated by such grade designations are set out in columns 2, 3 and 4 respectively of the said Schedule. 4. Grade designation marks :- The grade designation mark shall consist of a label bearing the design set out in Schedule II along with the appropriate grade designation and the following colour :- 5. Method of marking :- A grade designation mark shall be securely attached to each container. In addition to the grade designation the following particulars shall be clearly marked on the label :- (1) Form in which prepared, e.g., bheli, chakki, luddoo or any other local name denoting the form. (2) Texture, i.e., whether granular (rawedar or danedar) or smooth (chikna) in the case of Al, All and B grades only. (3) Month and year of production. (4) Net weight. (5) Place and date of packing. (6) Name of authorised packer. (7) Lot Number. NOTE.-In the case of hard Gur containing less than 4 per cent moisture and having a sucrose content determined by double polarisation not below 80 per cent, by weight, the word "Hard" may be stamped on the label. 6. Method of packing :- (1) The gur shall be packed in clean and dry containers in sound condition which may be made of wood, tinplate, jute, cotton, palm mats or paper. Containers which have been previously used for commodities likely to cause damage or impart any obnoxious flavour, odour or otherwise undesirable characteristics to the gur shall not be employed. The interior of containers used for packing gur of the Extra Special and Special grades shall be lined with clean plain packing paper or such other material as may be approved by the Agricultural Marketing Adviser. (2) Gur of granular texture shall be packed separately from gur with smooth texture and each container shall contain gur of one uniform quality and grade only. (3) Only whole unbroken" lumps (bheli, chakki or luddoo) of gur shall be packed, Lumps packed in one container shall be of the same type and reasonably uniform in shape, size and weight. The number given by the packer to each lot of "package" or bags of particular grade in accordance with the instruetions issued by the Agricultural Marketing Adviser to the Government of India. Excluding lumps from which small sample pieces have been removed for testing in the Control Laboratory. For the purpose of this sub-rule, small slabs of fairly uniform size cut according to the local Custom for the purpose of better packing shall be deemed to be whole unbroken lumps. " Extra Special grade shall be made only from cane juice which shall have been adequa clarified by means of vegetable activated carbon in addition to the normal methods of clarification. The total impurities in such gur shall n 0.2 per cent by weight. + The process of clarification may be effected by means of any of the agents normally employed for the purpose i mucilaginous extract of Sukhiai (Kydia Calycina). Deola (Hibiscus Ficulneous). Bhindi (Hibiscus Esculentus), etc., or milk, soda (sodium c lime, etc., or by adequately removing the scum during the boiling process. Bleaching agent shall not be used. @ Having due regard to clim factors and conditions under which the produce may have beeri handled, transported or stored.
