Amendment Of Section 5 Tamil Nadu Farmers Management Of Irrigation System (Amendment) Act, 2008 1 of 2009 Statement of Objects and Reasons2 The President and members of the Managing Committee of the Water Users Associations were elected under Section 5 of the Tamil Nadu Farmers' Management of Irrigation Systems Act, 2000 (Tamil Nadu Act 7 of 2001) in the month of January 2004 and their term of office is expiring on 29.1.2009, on completion of five years from the date of the first meeting of the said committee. As the election to the Managing Committee could not be conducted before 29.1.2009 in view of the limited time available, the Government have decided to extend the term of office of the President and members of the said Managing Committee for a further period of six months by amending sub- section (5) of Section 5 of the said Act. 2. The Bill seeks to give effect to the above decision. PREAMBLE An Act to amend the Tamil Nadu Farmers' Management of Irrigation Systems Act, 2000 BE it enacted by the Legislative Assembly of the State of Tamil Nadu in the Sixtieth Year of the Republic of India as follows:-- 1. Vide T.N. Bill No.2 of 2009 -- Published in Tamil Nadu Government Gazette, Extraordinary, Part IV, Section 1, Iss. No.25, page 6, dated January 29, 2009. 1. Short Title And Commencement :- (1) This Act may be called the Tamil Nadu Farmers Management of Irrigation Systems (Amendment) Act, 2009. (2) It shall come into force at once. 2. Amendment Of Section 5 :- In Section 5 of the Tamil Nadu Farmers Management of Irrigation Systems Act, 2000 (Tamil Nadu Act 7 of 2001), in sub-section (5), for the expression "five years", the expression "five years and six months " shall be substituted.
