Abatement Of Action Taken Tamil Nadu Municipal Police (Repeal) Act, 2008 20 of 2008 Statement of Objects and Reasons2 The Tamil Nadu Municipal Police Act, 1878 (Tamil Nadu Act VII of 1878) provides for the payment, from Municipal funds of a portion of the cost of the Police force employed in the city of Chennai and in all Municipal towns within the State of Tamil Nadu. But, the expenditure towards Police Establishment in the State is met from the Consolidated Fund of the Government. As such, the Tamil nadu Municipal Police Act, 1878 (Tamil Nadu Act VII of 1878) has not been implemented. The Government have, therefore, decided to repeal the said Act. 2. The Bill seeks to give effect to the above decision. PREAMBLE An Act to repeal the Tamil Nadu Municipal Police Act, 1878. Be it enacted by the Legislative Assembly of the State of Tamil Nadu in the Fifty- ninth Year of the Republic of India as follows:-- 1. Received the Assent of the Governor of Tamil Nadu on May 22, 2008 -- Published in Tamil Nadu Government Gazette, Extraordinary, Part IV, Section 2, Iss. No. 159, page 69, dated May 23, 2008. 2. Vide L.A. Bill No.16 of 2008 -- Published in T.N. Govt. Gazette, Extra., Part IV, Section 1, Issue No. 108, pages 62-63, dated April 10, 2008. 1. Short Title And Commencement :- (i) This Act may be called the Tamil Nadu Municipal Police (Repeal) Act, 2008. (ii) It shall come into force at once. 2. Repeal :- The Tamil Nadu Municipal Police Act, 1878 (Tamil Nadu Act VII of 1878) (hereinafter referred to as the principal Act) is hereby repealed. 3. Abatement Of Action Taken :- All actions taken under the principal Act and all proceedings thereunder pending immediately before the commencement of this Act before any authority shall abate.
