Be it enacted by the Legislative Assembly of the State of Tamil Nadu in the Sixty-third Year of the Republic of India as follows:-- 1. Received the assent of the Governor of Tamil Nadu on November 14, 2012 -- Published in Tamil Nadu Government Gazette, Extraordinary, Part IV, Section 2, Iss. No. 322, Pages 262-263, dated November 16, 2012.Statement of Objects and Reasons : Refer T.N. Bill No. 37-- 2012 (2) CTAR page 1.118 1. Short title and commencement :- (1) This Act may be called the Tamil Nadu Universities Laws (Amendment) Act, 2012. (2) It shall be deemed to have come into force on the 14th day of July 2012. 2. Amendment of Tamil Nadu Act 1 of 1982 :- In Section 12 of the Bharathiar University Act, 1981 (Tamil Nadu Act 1 of 1982), in the Third Proviso to sub-section (3), for the expression "sixty-five years", the expression "seventy years " shall be substituted. 3. Amendment of Tamil Nadu Act 2 of 1982 :- In Section 12 of the Bharathidasan University Act, 1981 (Tamil Nadu Act 2 of 1982), in the Third Proviso to sub-section (3), for the expression "sixty-five years ", the expression "seventy years " shall be substituted. 4. Amendment of Tamil Nadu Act 15 of 1984 :- In Section 12 of the Mother Teresa Womens University Act, 1984 (Tamil Nadu Act 15 of 1984), in the Third Proviso to sub-section (3), for the expression "sixty-five years ", the expression "seventy years " shall be substituted. 5. Amendment of Tamil Nadu Act 23 of 1985 :- In Section 13 of the Alagappa University Act, 1985 (Tamil Nadu Act 23 of 1985), in the Third Proviso to sub-section (3), for the expression "sixty-five years", the expression "seventy years " shall be substituted. 6. Amendment of Tamil Nadu Act 31 of 1990 :- In Section 11 of the Manonmaniam Sundaranar University Act, 1990 (Tamil Nadu Act 31 of 1990), in the Third Proviso to sub- section (3), for the expression "sixty-five years ", the expression "seventy years " shall be substituted. 7. Amendment of Tamil Nadu Act 45 of 1997 :- In Section 12 of the Periyar University Act, 1997 (Tamil Nadu Act 45 of 1997), in the Third Proviso to sub-section (3), for the expression "sixty-five years", the expression "seventy years " shall be substituted. 8. Amendment of Tamil Nadu Act 27 of 2002 :- In Section 10 of the Tamil Nadu Open University Act, 2002 (Tamil Nadu Act 27 of 2002), in the Second Proviso to sub-section (3), for the expression "sixty-five years ", the expression "seventy years " shall be substituted. 9. Amendment of Tamil Nadu Act 32 of 2002 :- In Section 12 of the Thiruvalluvar University Act, 2002 (Tamil Nadu Act 32 of 2002), in the Second Proviso to sub-section (3), for the expression "sixty-five years ", the expression "seventy years " shall be substituted. 10. Amendment of Tamil Nadu Act 33 of 2008 :- In Section 10 of the Tamil Nadu Teachers Education University Act, 2008 (Tamil Nadu Act 33 of 2008), in the Second Proviso to sub- section (4), for the expression "sixty-five years ", the expression "seventy years " shall be substituted. 11. Repeal and saving :- (1) The Tamil Nadu Universities Laws (Amendment) Ordinance, 2012 is hereby repealed. (2) Notwithstanding such repeal, anything done or any action taken under the Bharathiar University Act, 1981 (Tamil Nadu Act 1 of 1982) or the Bharathidasan University Act, 1981 (Tamil Nadu Act 2 of 1982) or the Mother Teresa Womens University Act, 1984 (Tamil Nadu Act 15 of 1984) or the Alagappa University Act, 1985 (Tamil Nadu Act 23 of 1985) or the Manonmaniam Sundaranar University Act, 1990 (Tamil Nadu Act 31 of 1990) or the Periyar University Act, 1997 (Tamil Nadu Act 45 of 1997) or the Tamil Nadu Open University Act, 2002 (Tamil Nadu Act 27 of 2002) or the Thiruvalluvar University Act, 2002 (Tamil Nadu Act 32 of 2002) or the Tamil Nadu Teachers Education University Act, 2008 (Tamil Nadu Act 33 of 2008), as amended by the said Ordinance, shall be deemed to have been done or taken under the respective Acts, as amended by this Act.
