Work Assistant (Class III) (Panchayat Service) Recruitment Rules, 1998 In exercise of the powers conferred by Sec. 227 read with Sec. 274 of the Gujarat Panchayats Act, 1993 (Guj. 18 of 1993) and in supersession of all the rules made in this behalf, the Government of Gujarat hereby makes the following rules to provide for regulating recruitment to the post of Work Assistant (Class III), (Panchayat Service) namely: 1. 1. :- These rules may be called the Work Assistant (Class III) (Panchayat Service) Recruitment Rules, 1998. 2. 2. :- Appointment to the post of Work Assistant (Class III) (Panchayat Service), shall be made either (a) by promotion of a person of proved merit and efficiency from amongst the persons who have worked as Mistry (Class III) (Panchayat Service) or Road Karkoon (Class III) (Panchayat Service) or Irrigation Karkoon (Class III) (Panchayat Service) or Canal Inspector (Class III) (Panchayat Service) for not less than five years and who have passed the departmental examination; or (b) by direct selection. 3. 3. :- The appointment by direct selection and promotion shall be made in the ratio of 1:3. 4. 4. :- To be eligible for appointment by di ect selection to the post mentioned in Rule 2, a candidate shall (a) not be less than 18 years and not more than 25 years of age; (b) have passed the Secondary School Certificate Examination or its equivalent examination recognised by Government of Gujarat; (c) possess (i) a certificate in Building Construction or a certificate in Civil Draftsmanship and Estimating work from an Industrial Training Institution or an equivalent qualification recognised by Government of Gujarat, or (ii) a Diploma in Civil Engineering or equivalent Diploma awarded by the Government of Gujarat or by an Institution in Engineering recognised by the Government of Gujarat; (d) have adequate knowledge of Gujarati and Hindi. 5. 5. :- A selected candidate shall be on probation for a period of one year. 6. 6. :- A Selected candidate shall be required to undergo such training for such period and pass such post-training examination as may be prescribed by the Government. 7. 7. :- A candidate appointed either by promotion or by direct selection shall be required to pass the departmental examination and an examination in Gujarati or Hindi or both as may be prescribed by the Government. 8. 8. :- A selected candidate shall be required to furnish a security and surety bond for such amount in such form and for such period as may be prescribed by the Government.
